September through October. The notch is October.

No date. in season or not — this one is decided by the weather, not by the calendar, so the honest answer is a month rather than a day.

Where: Lake Wales Ridge preserves
Drive: 40 minutes from Lakeland
In season: September through October
Certainty: in season or not
Drone: varies

How often we have called it on

We have called this on 5 of the 6 Sundays we looked. Last on September 27. That is our own weekly verdict rather than a measurement of the trigger, and a condition that fires midweek can pass between two builds.

From the field

Scrub endemics that grow nowhere else on earth, and the bloom is a few weeks on ridge sand rather than a season.
